Ozona, Texas: Podunk Town in a Major Wind Storm... No Foolin'! April 1st and 2nd

Yes, you are seeing the sign in the photo correctly: This town of three thousand boasts of being the "biggest little town in the world." Huh. I wonder what data--what proof--they have to back up this colossal claim?! If I had had the time, I would have inquired! Alas, I did not.

In any event, I set up my tent--the ONLY one present-- in the private RV park in Ozana called "Southern Living RV park". It was about as basic an RV park as one could find, but at least only $20 to spend the night. (As compared to $50 per night at the two Jan and I stayed at together.) The one facility included a laundry room and bathroom with a shower. I didn't need to do laundry, but taking a nice hot, heavenly shower was just about worth the amount of money! Plus, the hostess of the park was a very pleasant woman (name already forgotten) whom I chatted with briefly.

As you can see in the photo, the location wasn't half bad--on a nice patch of grass--and there was another terrific sunset to enjoy there.

HOWEVER!!! I am now going to FORMALLY--in this humble blog-- contest the claim the ranger made about Guadalupe Mountains Nat'l. Park being the 2nd windiest place in the U.S. NO, my friends!!! The SECOND windiest place was HERE, in this humble, "biggest little town" of OZANA, Texas!!! Swear to God, the wind in the night was UNREAL! The tent actually collapsed on me!! I had to remove everything and relocate to the interior of my car!! THAT was how bad it was.

The next morning, all of the stakes had been yanked out of the ground and ONLY ONE stake was resilient enough to hold onto the tent and prevent it from being completely blown away. It MIGHT have been stopped by the fencing surrounding the RV park, but then again, maybe NOT! Glad I didn't have to find out! It WAS completely flattened, to be sure... and by some miracle, was still intact: no part of it torn or broken. WOW. Crazy, indeed!

I was SO thankful to hit the road again, anticipating the prospect of having an INDOOR, pet sitting gig to get to in Austin, starting that very night! Even it it was going to be windy in Austin, I would have protection, and hopefully--God willing-- be graced with a good night's sleep!!! (Which, dear reader, you will find out about in the subsequent blog post!)

YEP! Windblown to the max!!!
